Our History

In 1973, Madan Pal Singh Rana (B.A, FSBT) and Mohan Singh Rana (B.Com (Hons), ACIS, ACMA, FFA, CPA(K)) started Devonshire College of Accountancy and Devonshire Accountants in Nairobi, Kenya. The name "Devonshire' was adapted from the name of the building (Devonshire House) in which the businesses were established. Devonshire Accountants offered professional accountancy & taxation services while the college offered accounting courses and publication of accountancy textbooks. Mohan Rana was also the Chief Examiner with the Kenya National Examinations Council for Commerce and he also prepared various accounting examinations for the Council. Mohan Rana was also involved with Highway Secondary School in the early 1960's. He later maintained the position of Treasurer on the school's Borad of Govenors. Madan P S Rana chaired the Board of Governors for Ngara Girls High School in Kenya and was a Sports Director with the United Kenya Club in Nairobi.

In 1979, Devonshire Secondary School was opened to offer the growing need of education in Kenya. The school was able to produce excellent results under the management of both Madan and Mohan.

During the 30 years until 2003, both Madan and Mohan wrote over 40 accountancy titles catering for both technician and professional levels. The most popular titles were Introduction to Bookkeeping & Accounts, Principles of Accounts and Q&A to 'O' level Commerce, which was published by Pitmans, UK.

In 2009, Devonshire Accountants was set up to provide Accountancy and Taxation services in Australia.

In 2012, we are re-introducing "Introduction to Bookkeeping & Accounts" to Australia, East Africa and Fiji.
